Safeguarding

Female Genital Mutilation: Recognising and Preventing FGM
A recent study revealed that 137,000 women in England and Wales are estimated to be living with the consequences of FGM. To address this issue, the Home Office is championing a proactive approach and has launched this free online FGM training package.

​The training will help a wide range of professionals to identify and assist girls who are at risk of FGM.

Home Office Introductory Prevent training
This offers an introduction to the Prevent duty, and explains how it aims to safeguard vulnerable people from being radicalised to supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists themselves. It will provide an important foundation on which to develop further knowledge around the risks of radicalisation and the role that you can play in supporting those at risk.

This Level 2 Safeguarding & Prevent online course is accredited by NCFE Cache. You’ll learn about Prevent Duty and safeguarding including online safety. This course is ideal for anyone wanting to understand their role in safeguarding and how to protect individuals from abuse.

Level 1 Child Criminal Exploitation and County Lines

Parents Against Child Exploitation (Pace) and Virtual College have teamed up to create this FREE short (20 to 30 minutes) online course designed for parents, carers and professionals working alongside children and young people.

Understanding Autism, Asperger's and ADHD
This free short online course will encourage you to challenge your own definitions and perceptions of autism and ADHD. You will get an opportunity to examine several key themes around both autism and ADHD in order to obtain skills to help people with these conditions.

Level 2 Understanding Autism
This fully-funded course will help you learn how autism affects people and the best approaches for providing support for individuals with autism.
Accredited by NCFE Cache, the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism is a valuable qualification for providing support to individuals with autism in sectors such as health and social care, education and entertainment.

Understanding Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a condition affecting literacy skills. This free course, Understanding Dyslexia, analyses how our image of normality affects the way we as a society define such conditions. You will learn how important it is to integrate the different psychological accounts of dyslexia in order to provide a full explanation of potential causes and strategies for remediation.

This is a combined course with modules from our Level 2 Teaching Assistant course and Level 2 Childcare course. You’ll receive two certificates when you complete the course, a Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges certificate and a Level 2 Award in Introducing Caring for Children and Young People certificate.
Level 2 Classroom Assistant Course

Our Level 2 Classroom Assistant online course will help you prepare for school job roles such as; Classroom Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Early Years Practitioner and Learning Support Assistant in a primary school setting. Level 2 Supporting Children and Young People in School
Our Supporting Young People in Schools course is ideal for those who currently work, or are looking to work, with children and young people in a school or early years environment. The course includes modules found on standard Teaching Assistant courses, with added modules taken from Childcare courses, such as safeguarding and welfare. Upon completion of the Supporting Young People in Schools course, you will gain two nationally recognised qualifications.

Teaching assistants are an important resource in education. This free course, Teaching assistants: support in action, looks at how the role has developed across the UK over time. It explores the skills and attributes that teaching assistants use to provide effective support and contribute to productive teamwork.

Supporting children's development
Supporting children’s development is an introductory course for anyone who is interested in children’s development, especially support staff in schools, such as teaching assistants. It builds on your knowledge and skills to develop a deeper understanding of children from the early years to school leavers. You will be introduced to some core ideas surrounding development and learning, behaviour, special needs and disabilities.

Curriculum - Literacy

Supporting you with teaching English
This is the first in a series of five webinars looking at the teaching of Primary English. It is hosted by James Clements in conjunction with the Oxford University Press OUP. The webinar also has free downloadable resources that support it and can be used in the classroom.

The Write Stuff Online Training series
This is a range of CPD videos that have been created by author of The Write Stuff and Hooked on Books, Jane Considine. These videos look specifically at the teaching of writing and build up over a series of CPD sessions.
Free resources can also be downloaded via the Jane Considine Education website.

Understanding Autism, Asperger's and ADHD
These videos provide Reading CPD from the well-known Mrs P Teach website. They are split into parts.
Part 1 - important elements when planning and teaching a reading unit.
Part 2 - a structure for teaching reading, particularly with whole-class lessons.
Other supporting resources about Reading can also be found on the website.

An Introduction to Teaching Phonics
A free CPD-accredited online course designed for Early Years and KS1 teachers and support staff. The aims of the course are to learn what phonics is, to ;earn some of the key vocabulary used in phonics lessons, to review the structure of a phonics lesson and to look at some practical strategies that can be used in the classroom. Duration 40-60 minutes.

Phonics Teaching Guide
Designed for people who want to teach phonics as a profession. Explore the basics of phonics, the most suitable techniques for teaching phonics and the benefits of involving parents and carers in the process. Investigate the differences between the parts of speech, devise strategies to support various types of readers and assess and keep track of your student's performance in their journey to learning phonics.

Teaching Mathematics
This free course, Teaching mathematics, has been designed for non-specialist mathematics teachers of 8 to 14 year olds, teaching assistants, home schoolers and parents and draws on the established provision of mathematics education at The Open University. It can also be used as Continuing Professional Development by individuals or groups of teachers.
This course aims to develop your understanding of the mathematical content covered in the middle school years and effective strategies and approaches to the teaching and learning of this content.

Using visualisation in Maths teaching
